Popis: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is very frequent in children. The diagnosis of UTI is based on urinalysis with strict criteria and should not be performed on urine collected by plastic bags due to an unacceptable high rate of false positive. Ultrasound is the cornerstone of UTI imaging in children and should always be performed at the first episode even in case of normal prenatal ultrasound. Doubtful cases or complicated UTI can be explored by MRI. Computed tomography should no longer be performed due to radiation exposure issues unless MRI is unavailable. When to perform voiding cystourethrography remains a subject of debate. Bladder and bowel dysfunction is a major risk of UTI recurrence and should always be considered in toilet-trained children.
