Popis: Two of the four bean acidic PR proteins (PR 1, PR 2, PR 3 and PR 4), namely PR 3 and PR 4 are acidic chitinases. These two chitinases, localized in the intercellular spaces, share common antigenic sites, but possess no antigenic sites, similar to those of the vacuolar basic isoform (ethylene-induced bean chitinase). These two acidic enzymes account for about 10% of the total chitinase activity found in chemically stressed or virus-infected bean plants. In addition to the four previously characterized bean acidic PR proteins, two additional acidic PR proteins have been detected showing 1,3-β-glucanase activity. These two proteins cross-react with antisera raised against bean basic 1,3-β-glucanase and against a maize acidic glucanase.
