Popis: | During the last decades, Cheria basin which is karstic region located northeast of Algeria was subjugated to unrationalised high groundwater extraction. The extracted waters were mainly used by local farmers for agriculture and daily-life purposes. As results, underground cavities and sinkholes occurrence start to overwhelm the area due to the massive underground water extractions. Therefore, in this research we used Sentinel-1A SAR satellite images with a high spatial resolution to monitor and investigate the vertical movement of ground instability of two sinkholes have collapsed and created serious damages in the Cheria basin. The results of the interferograms generated from SAR images acquired at different timeframes through SNAP software, was the foundation for obtaining a time-series results for monitoring the overall land movement. The results show a displacement map with values ranging between −30 to −60 mm/year. Overall, the obtained results using InSAR techniques with a large scale and high accuracy monitoring can give information about earth surface deformation and therefore help decision makers in the process of reducing the damage created by Sinkholes. |
