For the detection of X-rays in the energy range 5–40 keV, traditional NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors have been confined to a limited dynamic range. The development of sophisticated counting electronics together with ultra low noise power supplies and the use of a novel, fast non-hydroscopic scintillator have allowed the development of a detector with a background count of 0.1 cps and a peak count rate in excess of 3 × 10 6 cps. We report on the performance of this detector for X-ray diffraction experiments. |
