Popis: | The care-giving needs of carers of persons with the first episode of psychosis (PwFEP) are relatively unexplored in Asia. Understanding the needs of these carers provides valuable insight into the ways of caring and in guiding program development. This paper reports on a study designed to explore carers needs of caring for a person diagnosed with the first episode of psychosis. Eleven carers participated in face to face semi-structured interviews. All the interviews were audio recorded and later transcribed. Data analysis was carried out using general inductive approach. Six themes emerged from the data: educational needs; follow-up services; social welfare, legal and financial needs; managing illness; personal needs; and socio-occupational functioning needs. Carers in India have unique and distinctive needs. Identifying these needs might help in developing need based psychosocial interventions for the better management of carers. |
