A ray‐tracing algorithm was used to model the bottom reverberation for a Pekeris waveguide with a variety of marine bottoms including sands, silts, and clays. Monostatic and quasimonostatic cases were studied. Effects of attenuation in the bottom were also considered. In addition to the horizontal case, sloping bottoms between 3 and 15 deg were investigated. Results from the model were used to draw conclusions about the magnitude and importance of these and related parameters in calculations of bottom reverberation.
