Popis: | These experiments studied the effect of corn stillage in broiler and turkey starter diets and the efficacy of various products to preserve the resulting high-moisture diets. Corn stillage fed at an 8-10% level on a dry matter basis (DMB) supported broiler growth and feed conversion comparable to those obtained with the control diet. Turkey poults were able to consume a 16% corn stillage (DMB) diet with growth and feed conversion comparable to that of the control diet. Both broilers and turkeys reduced their drinking water intake to compensate for water consumed via the feed. This resulted in no change in broiler fecal moisture and only a 5% increase in turkey fecal moisture. Both 3% propionic acid and 3% Shield preservative were effective in preserving the high-moisture stillage diets. Aflaban preservative at 0.08% was not as effective as the other compounds tested in preserving the diets. |
