Popis: The goal of the current study is to examine previously held assumptions about system justification theory, namely, (1) that people who researchers say belong in disadvantaged categories (objectively disadvantaged) see themselves as disadvantaged, and that, consequently, (2) people who are objectively disadvantaged feel dissonance when they justify the system, and (3) that disadvantaged peoples’ self-interest is at odds with justifying the system. It also addresses the previously held assumption that system justification uniquely contributes to peoples’ epistemic, existential, and relational needs to reduce uncertainty, threat, and social discord. Finally, this study examines the opposite of system justification: when objectively advantaged people reject the system. The same assumptions exist as I’ve just listed, and they, too, will be examined.
