Popis: Background: Procalcitonin is introduced and reviewed as a new marker of the inflammatory response to infection. Induction anesthetic agent usage is known for the procalcitonin increases. Objective: To determine the difference effects of propofol, penthotal and etomidate administration on procalcitonin concentration in general anastesia. Method: An experimental study on 24 patients who received general anesthesia. Samples were divided into three groups (n:8, respectively). The 1 st , the 2 nd ,and the 3 rd group received propofol , penthotal or etomidate as the induction anesthetic agent during the procedure, with the rate of administration propofol 2,5mg/body weight, penthotal 5mg/body weight, etomidat 0,3 mg/body weight and O2 :N2 O ratio 50%:50%. A specimen was taken from each group before induction anesthetic, four hours post induction and twenty four hours post induction. All specimens were taken to the clinical pathology laboratory for procalcitonin concentration testing. Statistical analyses were perfomed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Friedman test (with level of significance p
