Popis: | Dame JANET VAUGHAN was one of six women who were featured in 1984 in the BBC’s series ‘Women of our Century’. It has been said that Janet Vaughan had four careers. She had two scientific careers, the first as a clinical pathologist and research worker in haematology in the 1930s and 1940s, and the second when she directed the unit investigating the metabolism of radioactive fission products in the 1950s and 1960s. She had a third career in education as Principal of Somerville College from 1945 to 1967. Always Janet was greatly concerned with social issues in the widest sense. Her work on committees and her active involvement in many areas of social injustice can be described as a fourth career which permeated her whole life. |
