An Improved Method of Traffic Control Period Division for Intersection Based on Signal Cycle Calculation

Popis: A simple and practical method of intersection control period division was proposed from the urban traffic control perspective. According to the historical statistics of the traffic volume, considering the differences of traffic flows, and based on the process of average hourly traffic volume, the method could calculate the cycle length of signalized intersection, set determination threshold value of control period, and divide 24h a day into several control periods, which provided a scientific basis for the establishment of signal timing programs with multiple periods a day. The calculation results showed that this method was agreed with the actual traffic flow compared with the traditional method.
