Summary form only given. The technique of ion imaging can be used to determine the state distribution of photofragment after a photodissociation process has occurred. A molecular beam of the parent molecule is prepared and then crossed by lasers which serve to dissociate the molecule and probe the fragments. The photofragments are state-selectively ionized and then focused by an electrostatic immersion lens onto a position-sensitive microchannel plate and phosphor screen assembly. The imaging technique provides both the fragment angular distributions and the fragment vibrational populations. |
