Popis: IT IS DIFFICULT to write of research in advance without anticipating the nature of its results. Experiments are best discussed after they have been carried out. Indeed, the course of research cannot fairly be predicted, since during its evolution results may come to light which entirely divert its course. Nevertheless, many have expressed a desire for some general statement of how and where the new research policy of CA is tending. Research at CA must necessarily he directed either toward improving the speed of publication and coverage of its existing services or toward adding new documentation services to the range. In some cases both fields can be served hy t he same investigation as, for example, when anticipated improvements in recording and storing data enable a speed-up of indexing.
