Popis: | Hyperlipidemia was induced in rabbits by feeding them cholesterol. The effect of Terminalia arjuna, an indigenous hypolipidemic agent on the serum lipid and lipoprotein profile was studied. Hyperlipidemia produced an increase in cholesterol, VLDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglyceride and reduced the level of HDL-cholesterol. T. arjuna treatment for three months altered the lipoprotein pattern by raising HDL-cholesterol and lowering LDL-cholesterol levels in the drug treated rabbits. |
