Popis: attempt todemonstrate the influence of the multidisciplinaryteam on improving the accuracy of clinical staging. It was not surprising that a consensus agreementon clinical stage by the multidisciplinary team, which took all testing results into consideration asa whole, was more accurate than the interpretationof stage by each testing modality in isolation.Because of the lethality and relative rarity ofesophageal cancer and the heterogeneity in treat-ment practices around the world, it would be verydifficult to definitively prove that a multidisciplinaryapproach improves survival and outcomes in thesepatients. While the studies mentioned may sufferfrom the flaws inherent in a retrospective reviewsuch as observer, information and lead-time bias, comparison of groups over different time periods, and inadequate power, the authors have very nicelyhighlighted the issue of disease-specific multidisci-plinary care for further discussion.A multidisciplinary team approach may bedefined as the creation of a tailored treatment planfor each esophageal cancer patient based on inputfrom multiple disciplines. This process is dynamicand evolves, based upon the available evidence orresearch protocols. The team as outlined by Stephens
