Popis: | This paper gives a brief description of the current status of our program to develop a modular array of large electronic particle detectors. These modules were designed to study the UH nuclei in the cosmic radiatin with eventual deployment on the Space Station or at a lunar base. This array would determine the abundances of elements from iron to the actinides and directly measure the energies of the lower energy nuclei. If the array was deployed on the Space Station, it would use the geomagnetic threshold to place limits on the higher energy nuclei, thus studying the energy spectrum up to ≊10 GeV/n. Deployed at a lunar base it would detect nuclei with energies down to the instrumental limit. Smaller versions could be flown on balloons to test and refine the modules. |
