Popis: This paper assumes that hotels are pivotal in the development of tourism in general, and specifically in the context of economically marginal areas in Canada that are looking towards tourism as a generator of economic activity. In consequence, they may be deemed to be important opinion leaders contributing towards decisions about environmental protection policies that impinge on tourism. This study therefore reports on the attitudes of Canadian hoteliers to environmental issues, and tests various hypotheses including whether or not current profitability, size of hotel or other structural components are determining factors of such attitudes. The paper concludes that hoteliers tend to concur with environmental protection policies, and that these attitudes are generally independent of profitability.
