Popis: This chapter examines the work of Leibniz related to library science. It explains that books served as a constant background over the course of Leibniz’s life and activities, and inspired his interests and studies in an extraordinary variety of fields. It offers arguments against scholars’ criticisms that limited Leibniz’s role in library science to that of a pure theoretician, and suggests that this discipline can only be understood correctly if considered in terms of its connection with crucial aspects of Leibniz’s thought. It also considers Leibniz’s ideal of the bibliothèque à sa phantasie and the construction of an encyclopedia or universal repertorium.
