Popis: | An analytical method is used to study the tensile stresses beneath a rock cutter, which is modelled as a finite length strip of facial pressure and shear along an infinite notch. For notch angles greater than 120°, the elastic stress fields are predominantly tensile and it is recommended that cutters span less than 90° in order to maximize tensile stress development and chip formation. |
