The chapter includes details of the different possible funding routes for trials and an overview of the grant awarding procedures used by funding agencies. Detailed instructions are given on what information should be included in a grant application, including clear specification of the questions to be addressed by the trial, previous knowledge on these questions, how relevant information will be collected and analysed in the trial, the community engagement plan, quality control and supervision procedures, the specification of potential problems in the trial and how these will be addressed and how the results of the trial will be disseminated to different audiences. Advice is given on the key questions that reviewers and funding committees will consider when reviewing a grant application and how to respond to the comments of referees.
