This study is being conducted to investigate associations of perceived cultural expectations regarding positive emotions with rumination, cellphone-mediated co-rumination, face-to-face co-rumination, and depression/ anxiety symptoms among emerging adults (18–25-year-olds). It is hypothesized that high valuation of positive affect will be associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety, and this association will be moderated by higher levels of rumination and co-rumination. It is also hypothesized that higher levels of social media use will be associated with higher levels of happiness valuation. This study will expand on prior research from this lab investigating co-rumination face-to-face and in person, and its relationship with depression and anxiety symptoms (see past OSF pre-registration) Whiting, W., Murdock, K.
