Popis: ‘C-Mode Doppler’ is a new real-time technique, that can measure the two dimensional velocity distribution and true volume flow in large blood vessels. An in-vitro study has been carried out for the evaluation of a real time prototype C-Mode Doppler system. The C-Mode system was equipped with a 2D array transducer with 63 elements arranged in a 7 by 9 matrix. The measured velocity profiles are in good agreement with the expected parabolic distribution. However, a slight overestimation of the vessel diameter has been observed due to crosstalk between neighbouring sample volumes and the limited resolution of the system. The evaluated independence of the angle of incidence has an error range of 2 % to 4 % depending on the distance between the array transducer and the measuring slice. The linearity was tested for flow towards and away from the probe at rates between 2 and 38 ml/s; the resulting correlation coefficient was 0.9986. The presence of disturbed 2D velocity profiles showed only minor influence on the evaluated flow rate, as documented with measurements up- and downstream of stenoses and with dynamically changing velocity profiles when using oscillatory flow.
