Popis: The spin-lattice relaxation time T1 of Tb3+ in CaWO4 has been measured in the temperature range 13-9 °K. The dependence of the relaxation rate on temperature can be described by This suggests that the first excited state lies at 788 °K above the ground doublet, which is confirmed by an absorption experiment. These results are compared with those predicted by a set of crystal field parameters suggested by Shekun.
