Publisher Summary This chapter discusses an evaluation of Fontanelle pressure measurements. To assess the effect of application force, it was necessary also to develop a fontanometer mount. The mount comprised of a plastic body about 3 cm in diameter. The inner bag tubing was connected to a water manometer, which showed the internal pressure (ICP) in cm water. Between the bag and the manometer was a side arm to which syringes were attached, by pushing air in and out of the system, ICP was maintained at various desired levels. Validity of the fontanometer is given by the relationship of anterior fontanelle pressure (AFP) to ICP, which should be identical for perfect validity. It is found that since AFP varied so much with displacement, it was first necessary to examine the relationship of these two parameters. It is found that when the Ladd device was studied, the series of curves for different ICPs was obtained. For increasing displacement, an initial rise of AFP to a peak value occurred, followed by fall to a trough, and then a slower but steady rise to the limits of testability by model. |
