Making a worthy contribution to the Treasury of world science and culture, the city also serves as a model of development and architecture in Central Asia. Samarkand reached its true prosperity and development after the October revolution. Now the city, a former suburb of tsarist Russia, has become a beacon of socialism in the East. During the last years of construction, Samarkand and Bukhara, in particular its Central part has changed unrec-ognizably. New complexes and ensembles are being created in accordance with the master plan for the develop-ment of the city and its center. The ongoing work on the project of the citywide center has shown that despite the presence of a common compositional idea and a specific solution to its individual sections, many problems of planning and development of the city center require scientific research and creative research. |
