Popis: The archaeological potential of the continental shelf has been recognized for a long time. Because of large fluctuations in sea level, palaeo-landscapes with prehistoric coastal archaeological sites are now submerged. Traces of Palaeolithic and early Mesolithic hominin activity during glaciations are commonly found in shallow coastal waters (e.g., Momber, 2000).
