Popis: Miniaturized robots with length scales about a few micrometers to nanometers offer the possibility to access cellular level functioning of the human body. The burgeoning efforts toward developing miniaturized autonomous systems that can efficiently transform the available energy into functional movement have absorbed attention in the arena of nanorobotics. In addition, the technological advancement driven via miniaturization has enhanced the performance of the nanobots extending their potential in biomedical applications among others. Smart nanorobots, which are distinct from conventional large mechanical robots, deliver their applicability in cancer treatment, precision surgeries, gene therapy, treatment of diabetes and aneurysm, and disease diagnostics. In addition, devices developed based on these nanorobots have been applied to the fabrication of self-powered diagnostic systems. This chapter discusses the crucial developmental joints of nanotechnology-mediated progression of autonomous motors/robots and highlights their important advances in biomedical applications. Additionally, it provides an insight into the future prospects, opportunities, and challenges involved in their realization in the field of biomedical application.
