Popis: We studied the incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) before operation in leg fractures. DVT was evaluated in 36 cases using venography between May 2001 and December 2001. There were 30 femoral neck fractures, three cases of osteoarthritis of the knee, one osteonecrosis of the femoral head, one rapidly destructive coxarthropathy, and one multiple fracture. DVT was seen in three of the 30 femoral neck fracture cases (10%). According to other literature on DVT, the incidence of DVT is mainly higher after operation than before. Also D-dimer was high in DVT cases. Consequently, D-dimer was useful for the diagnosis of DVT.
