Popis: A study has been made of the dehydrogenation of Hantzsch ethers by pyridlne N-oxide. A scheme proposed for this reaction shows the hydride-ion passing over into a complex of the Hantzsch ether with the N-oxide (limiting step), followed by rapid transfer of the H+ ion to the hydride-ion acceptor with elimination of water and the final reaction products.
