Popis: A numerical investigation is performed in the present study to evaluate the effects of exhaust gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrogen (N2) recirculation on a comparative basis on heavy-duty (HD) diesel engine performance, soot and NO emissions. Engine simulation software, which is based on a multizone combustion model, is used to examine the repercussions of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), as well as CO2 and N2 recirculation, on HD diesel engine combustion characteristics, soot, and NO emissions on a comparative basis. To assess the predictive ability of the simulation model an experimental validation is performed using existing data from a HD turbocharged (T/C) common-rail diesel engine at 1800 rpm and 50% of full load, considering low and high rates of high-pressure cooled EGR. The experimental data were made available from a previous experimental investigation, which was performed for the specific HD diesel engine at the 12 operating points of the European Stationary Cycle (ESC). The engine simulatio...
