Magnetization study of the IAl80Mn20 and TAl78Mn22 quasicrystalline phases

Popis: The results of a magnetization study are reported for two phases of rapidly quenched AlMn which possess non-crystallographic rotational symmetry: icosahedral (I-phase) IAl 80 Mn 20 and decagonal (T-phase) TAl 78 Mn 22 . The measurements were carried out over a temperature range from 1.7 to 300 K and for magnetic fields up to 50 kOe utilizing both VSM and SQUID magnetometry. The magnetic behavior of both phases is characterized by a small concentration of large moment “clusters” and spin-glass-like ordering.
