An air-silica nonlinear microstructured optical fiber (MOF) fabricated indigenously has been used to generate an ultrashort pulse of 38 fs from an input pulse width of 600 fs at a source wavelength of 1064 nm utilizing higher order soliton propagation for compression. The MOF has a simple three ring hexagonal structure which can be easily fabricated and used as an alternative to the sophisticated ultrashort pulse sources which are not commonly available. Compression ratio of 15.79 was achieved which is among the best considering the one stage compression system adopted in this work comprising of the MOF. |
