Popis: More than 1200 million sheep are raised in the world, 18% of them are dairy sheep that account for a milk yield of 10.14 million T. The 44% of the total milk production coming from the Mediterranean Basin. Dairy sheep system shows a wide variation in farming management techniques and milk productivity. Feeding techniques, forage systems and livestock management in grazing and confined systems are presented. Sheep milk is processed into high quality cheeses, PDO cheeses with a recognized sensory and nutraceutical characteristics. Moreover, multifunctionality aspects of sheep dairy system and its positive externalities, such as provision of environmental services, are briefly commented.
