This paper draw a comparison between the Italian South and the Brazilian Northeast observing the interpretation of Antonio Gramsci on the Mezzogiorno issue in the Italian peninsula. Our hypothesis is that international capitalism promotes unbalanced processes of accumulation because the bourgeois class does not achieve hegemony in a diffuse way in its processes of insertion as a dominant class in the contemporary world. The paper has two sections: the first deals with the general aspects that make up the situation in the Italian South, according to Gramsci; the second section focuses on the possibility of translation of the northeastern Brazilian region as originating from the same social processes that formed the Italian regional question. On second section, we use both the Gramsci's own writings and some authors who have commented his work. We also use other thinkers who approach the problem that surrounds the Northeastern region in the national framework of political and economic participation on capitalism. |
