*† This paper examines the use of vorticity confinement (VC) on unstructured grids coupled with the wake-integration method for drag prediction from CFD results. The VC method is added to unstructured Euler code FLUENT. Flow about rectangular planform NACA0012 wing is examined. Parameters of VC are tuned by solving model problem of preserving the Rankine vortex and the advantages of use of variable confinement parameter are demonstrated. Application of VC results in that the CFD-predicted aerodynamic drag becomes invariant of wake-integration plane location, the obtained drag become close to its theoretical lifting-line value, and the spurious entropy drag is suppressed. |
