Popis: A convenient, accurate potentiometric method for determining serum urea concentrations is described. The method required no sample preparation other than filtration. Urea and urease reacted in homogeneous solution to give ammonia and CO 2 . Using a CO 2 electrode, a linear calibration plot of change in millivolt (ΔmV) for enzymatic decarboxylation against logarithmic urea concentration was established for prepared urea solutions. The serum urea concentration was accurately determined via the calibration plot by correcting for the evolution of background serum CO 2 .
