It is unfortunate that Chadwick is not speaking at this session. Of all living men he knew Rutherford best, as a physicist and as a man. Those who have read Chadwick’s paper ‘Some Personal Notes on the Search for the Neutron’, will know that he not only tells the story of great events succinctly and well, but tells it in beautiful prose. Hence, first of all, I wish to read a few paragraphs from rough notes which Chadwick had prepared when planning what he would have said today, had his health allowed him to write a lecture and deliver it. |
