Popis: The emergence of seedlings of onion cv. White Lisbon in controlled environment and field experiments was affected by seedbed environment and seed quality. In controlled environments, probit percentage final seedling emergence was a positive linear function of temperature and a negative linear function of soil water content, except in very dry soils. The final seedling emergence of ten seed lots from field seedbeds was described by a single relation combining soil temperature, soil water content and laboratory germination. No consistent interactions between the effect of seed quality, soil water content and temperature on probit final emergence were detected. Therefore, the difference between laboratory germination and seedling emergence of good and poor quality lots in any one sowing was a constant probit value. The resultant relations described well the emergence of seedlings both from a different onion cultivar, and at one sowing in a different year. The rate of emergence of seedlings from controlled en...
