Complex articular fractures below the knee are not blessed with a generous envelope of soft tissue as are similar injuries more cephalad. This means that the surgeon must accomplish fracture reduction efficiently without unnecessary manipulation of bone fragments. Methods of obtaining proper alignment of fracture fragments involving the distal tibial articular surface without direct manipulation are termed “indirect reduction techniques” and are reviewed by case analysis. Such methods, properly utilized, can reduce soft-tissue complications and healing delay. |
