Popis: | In fibrous dysplasia, abnormal proliferation of fibroblasts and differentiation of osteoblasts occurs, resulting in a defect of bone marrow replacement by a fibrous connective tissue. The case report refers to a 54-year-old patient with complaints of facial asymmetry who in the intraoral palpation presented painless, immotile swelling with normal bone consistency and mucosal staining. Radiograph revealed radiolucent unilocular lesion associated with diffuse radiopacities and poorly defined margins. The patient underwent surgery for excisional biopsy under general anesthesia. Surgical access was extraoral through submandibular incision and, for localization of the lesion, ostectomy was performed on the mandibular branch with piezo motor. After locating the lesion, curettage and removal of fibrous tissue associated with calcifications were performed. Despite the close proximity with the inferior alveolar nerve, the patient did not present hyperalgia or related paresthesia. The histopathologic report was compatible with fibrous dysplasia. |
