Attachment theory states that aberrant early relationships can enhance risk for psychopathology. For instance, high attachment avoidance and anxiety relate to negative and positive schizotypy, respectively. The stability of these relationships was tested during a 4-week stressful period while manipulating individuals’ stress (stress exacerbates psychopathology). Procedure We tested 57 university students (9 M) during their assessment periods. All completed the short O-LIFE questionnaire (schizotypy), ECR (attachment orientation) and PSS (perceived stress), once at baseline and again after computerised stress management intervention (intervention group only). Results Perceived stress decreased in the intervention group but increased in the control group over 4 weeks. At both time points, positive correlations emerged between negative schizotypy and attachment avoidance and positive schizotypy and attachment anxiety, respectively. Conclusion Dispositional attachment orientation and trait schizotypy relationships remain stable over time, despite fluctuations in perceived stress. Future studies should elaborate on the clinical relevance of these relationships. |
