Popis: Cladding deformations were calculated using two models for tubular metallic reactor fuel elements. In the first model, the cyclic dependence of the expansion history was neglected and the strength of both the fuel and cladding materials was accounted for by using equations based on plastic-deformation theory. Exterior cladding deformations did depend on fuel geometries, but were relatively independent of the strength of the fuel material. In the second model, the strength of the fuel material was neglected, but the cyclic dependence of the expansions of the cladding material was accounted for. This model predicted that minus the ratio of the inner-to-exterior cladding strain is equal to the ratio of the inner-to-outer radii times outer-to-inner cladding thicknesses raised to the (1/1 - n) power for cladding materials with stresses, S, related to strains, E, by S = AE/E/sup n/.
