3D AVO is one of the emerging seismic technologies that is now being used more and more, as a tool for hydrocarbon exploration and field development. A key component of this technology is the 3D amplitudepreserving pre-stack processing, normally achieved through pre-stack time migration, either performed by a NMO, DMO, zero offset migration sequence, or by a Kirchhoff approach. For dipping events surrounding salt structures, prestack time migration is no longer valid due to large lateral velocity variation. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate a methodology and the improved results of 3D AVO analysis using prestack depth imaging of salt flank structures in the Gulf of Mexico. The results were also calibrated to well-log data. |
