Popis: A quick procedure for removing N2O from CO2 is described. The contaminant, nitrous oxide, is decomposed completely at a high temperature (690°C) within a few minutes, while the released oxygen is bound by hot copper into CuO. Carbon dioxide purified in this way is suitable for precise mass-spectrometrical determinations of its quantity and carbon isotope composition. It was shown that the presence of an N2O admixture in soil CO2 results in a shift of measured δ13C up to 2.3 per mil towards more negative values.
