Popis: Publisher Summary Lymphocytes can damage or kill other mammalian cells when appropriately stimulated. This has been demonstrated with lymphocytes from a homograft sensitized animal recipient directed against donor tissue with PHA-stimulated animal and human lymphocytes and with lymphocytes from animals or man derived from antigen sensitive donors directed against an indifferent target cell. More recently, it has been shown that such activated lymphocytes release a soluble substance (s) into their surroundings that mimics the direct effects of the lymphocytes themselves. The inhibition of individual HeLa cell clone formation provides a sensitive and simple quantitative indicator for the detection of such an active material(s). This chapter discusses the technique of clonal inhibition that is a quantitative assay for human lymphotoxin activity.
