In 20 years of private practice, 157 patients with cancer of the corpus uteri have been diagnosed or treated or both. Of these, 150 had adenocarcinomas of the endometrium. In this group, the preferred form of treatment included application of intracavitary and vaginal radium, with subsequent simple total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Individualization of treatment is as necessary as t is in management of cervical carcinoma patients. This form of therapy has yielded more successes and fewer complications then might be expected with other orders of procedure. The over-all survival rate was 81 per cent, or 85 patients of 105 eligible for 5 year follow-up study. |
