Popis: | A procedure for identifying the need for rehabilitation of city and county streets is presented. Key factors requiring consideration include user related factors, maintenance needs, and protection of the existing pavement investment. A key element in each of these factors, that can be easily measured, is pavement distress types, severity, and quantity. A composite distress index, called Pavement Condition Index (PCI), was defined. The PCI has been found to correlate strongly with rehabilitation needs as determined by experienced pavement engineers. The PCI, along with traffic volume, can be used as a general index of the relative need for rehabilitation. The procedure is easy to apply, does not require expensive equipment, and is under implementation for both streets and airfields. |
