Popis: Petty corruption in infrastructure delivery and service affects common people. This article presents the results of a survey, which was conducted to determine the types and magnitude of bribes in utilities in Karachi, one of the largest cities of Pakistan. The surveyed utilities included electricity and water supply. The information regarding the corrupt behaviors of public officials in these utilities was gathered through interviews and survey questionnaires. It was found that for the provision of both legal and illegal services, bribes were demanded by corrupt public officials. A will, and most importantly a political will, in the government structure is a prime mover to eradicate corruption. In this context, spot checks, doubling of salaries, strict government actions against corrupt officials, active journalism, and more access to information were recommended drivers to reduce corruption.
