Popis: Earlier studies have demonstrated that population evoked potentials in the visual1, auditory2, and somatosensory3 systems have been suppressed by the transcranial application of diffuse electrical currents. The greatest reduction in evoked potentials occurred in areas of high synaptic density such as in cortex and retina4. Electronmicroscopy studies5 have shown that the statistical distribution of the number of vesicles per synaptic ending is markedly altered by the electric currents. However, it is still uncertain how the reduction in evoked potentials comes about.
