The necessity to open up a reflection on Church and unity to an even wider understanding of the ecclesial unity underlies this chapter, which purpose is simply to introduce succinctly some elements concerning the role of the Eastern Catholic Churches with reference to the theological dialogue between the Latin Church and the Orthodox Church. This role is seen through the category of the prophetic dialogue, the contents of which could allow one, among the other things, to understand the ecclesial unity in terms of recognition and integration of diversity. This chapter is divided into three parts: the first introduces some remarks concerning the category of the prophetic dialogue; the second focuses on some consequent implications, which are also ecumenical; and the third rereads in this framework the abovementioned role of the Eastern Catholic Churches, with a particular emphasis on their identity. |
